RSK Business Solutions
The Big Rail Diversity Challenge
RSK Business Solutions is a consultancy and technology business built around its people. It combines rail engineering expertise with digital innovation.
The business is an industry technical authority on rail risk. Its teams provide safety assurance and risk management across heavy and light rail, from design through to in-service operation. Services include:
Safety Assurance services i.e CSM-RA
Signal overrun and driveability assessments
Level crossing risk assessments and surveys
ETCS, platform–train interface and train dispatch risk
Pedestrian flow analysis
Operational risk assessments
Risk Modelling
Over many years the team has built tools that are now used across the industry. With Network Rail it co-developed SORAT (2013) and SORAT-LX (2020). It also built the Signalling Risk Assessment Handbook, the RSSB PTI Tool and the Iarnród Éireann Level Crossing Risk Model. That engineering pedigree sits alongside an in-house technology arm. The arm delivers custom software, offshore product development and cybersecurity services. It has also built RSK’s own digital products, including:
Hazard Management Tool: a cloud-based platform that digitises CSM-RA hazard management. It is aligned with RSSB’s CHAMOIS hazard list and gives every decision a full audit trail. It was shortlisted for Product of the Year at the 2026 Rail North, Rail Cymru and Rail Scotland Spotlight Awards.
Root Cause Analysis and Predictive Modelling Tool: a data-driven platform that looks for the underlying causes of incidents and spots emerging risk trends. It helps clients move from reacting to events towards preventing them.
CompassEnviro Suite: an integrated platform for project management and environmental compliance.
Check Me In: a workforce safety platform for check-ins, notifications and emergency response. The company also delivers traffic and road surveys, including drone-based network surveys.
RSK Business Solutions helps clients make better-evidenced, more efficient safety decisions. It works with Network Rail, train operators, principal contractors and supply chain partners.
"At RSK Business Solutions, diversity is how we already work. Women make up around 50% of our team. We have seen first-hand that diverse teams ask better questions, challenge assumptions and come up with safer, more innovative solutions. Those qualities matter in an industry where every decision affects the safety of passengers and the workforce.
We also know our experience is not typical of rail. Women remain under-represented in engineering and technical roles. The industry cannot meet its future skills needs without drawing on the widest possible pool of talent. That is why we are proud to support The Big Rail Diversity Challenge and Women in Rail.
Our commitment goes further than taking part. We want to show what an inclusive rail business looks like in practice and share what has worked for us. We also want to help inspire the next generation of women to see rail, and rail technology, as a career where they can thrive and lead. By working with partners across the industry, we hope to help build a railway workforce that reflects the communities it serves."
